Dr. Kellie Riley is an Assistant Professor and the Co-Coordinator of Simulation for Academic Excellence at the Kirkhof College of Nursing at Grand Valley State University in Grand Rapids, MI. Dr. Riley obtained her BSN from Minnesota State University at Mankato, her MSN from University of Northern Colorado, and her DNP from University of Minnesota. She is a board certified Family Nurse Practitioner with over 25 years of experience. She made the transition to full-time academia in 2021.
Dr. Riley has a focus on advancing simulation-based learning across both undergraduate and graduate nursing programs. As a Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE), Dr.Riley is dedicated to integrating evidence-based practices into education, ensuring students gain the critical thinking and clinical skills necessary for success in healthcare.
With expertise in using simulation as a tool for active learning, Dr. Riley designs and implements engaging learning experiences in the classroom and simulation labs. Incorporating SSH standards and simulation best practices, she helps to create realistic, high-impact scenarios that challenge students to apply theoretical knowledge to practice in a safe, supportive environment. Dr.Riley is committed to developing innovative methods that foster student engagement and enhance learning outcomes.
Dr. Riley continuously seeks to advance educational practices and contribute to the ongoing development of simulation in nursing education. Her passion for teaching and commitment to student success has made her a key resource in shaping the future of healthcare simulation.
