Abstract: Simulation-based education, grounded in experiential learning theories, is an essential pedagogical approach that immerses learners in interactive, applied learning experiences. The effectiveness of simulation-based learning, however, is contingent upon the intentional design and facilitation of a psychologically safe and structured learning environment. The Healthcare Simulation Standards of Best Practice™ (HSSOBP) serve as a foundational framework for educators and practitioners, ensuring the development and implementation of high-quality simulation-based education.

This introductory workshop is designed for simulation educators and practitioners who are new to the field and seeking to establish a strong foundation in evidence-based simulation practices. Participants will engage with key HSSOBP™ standards, including Prebriefing: Preparation and Briefing, Facilitation, The Debriefing Process, and Professional Integrity, to understand their critical role in optimizing learner engagement and achieving intended learning outcomes. Through guided discussions and interactive exercises, attendees will explore strategies for integrating these standards into their simulation programs and fostering best practices in simulation-based education.

By the conclusion of this workshop, participants will be able to evaluate their current simulation practices, apply the HSSOBP™ standards to develop structured and effective simulation experiences and build confidence in their ability to create psychologically safe learning environments that enhance educational outcomes.
