Amy began her journey as an advocate for healthcare simulation in 2006. In 2009, she co-founded Healthcare Theatre with Theatre Faculty to encourage interprofessional education at the University of Delaware. The program has expanded to 2 undergraduate courses teaching enrolled students to become standardized patients /family members/confederates.
The success of Healthcare Theatre provided the impetus to partner with the College of Engineering in 2013 on a new products that will revolutionize healthcare simulation. The team now has now six products that are licensed to a new start-up. Each of these products is developed to overcome current pain points from customers and address the Institute for Healthcare Improvement’s triple aims: reducing cost of healthcare, improving patient outcomes, and improve the health of the populations.
The focus of the products and services now offered through, SimUCare is to improve the authenticity of each simulation to reflect actual clinical encounters, provide the patient’s voice throughout the simulation /debriefing process, and improve learner outcomes that are easily transferable to practice.
Amy has won several awards and competitions in the business, healthcare simulation, and academic sectors in recognition of the impact of their product line. The first award from the Society for Simulation in Healthcare was first prize for Technology Innovation at the International meeting for Simulation in Healthcare. In 2015 Amy was selected to be a part of a yearlong National League for Nurses Simulation Leadership Program. This year of mentoring and networking afforded Amy the vision and passion to move forward with SimUCare. Since January 2015 the SimUCare team has been selected for over $250,000 in external grant funding, furthering the research and development of the business and product line.
