Syretta Spears is associate director of the UCF Simulation, Technology, Innovation and Modeling [STIM] Center at the College of Nursing. She began her career in health care simulation over 12 years ago, making her one of the first formally trained female, non-clinical simulation technicians in the state of Florida. Today she leads a team that supports faculty with successful simulation-based experiences for pre-licensure learners and graduate nurse professionals during simulation and clinical skills-based education and summative evaluations. She holds master’s degrees in human resources management and in computer resources and information management. In 2017, she became one of the first graduates of the college’s health care simulation post baccalaureate certificate program. In April 2021, she successfully achieved her advanced simulation operations specialist certification. She was one of the first 25, in the world to achieve this designation, an international recognition of her specialized knowledge and accomplishments in the field of health care simulation operations and management. She recently became double certified and now as Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator. In service to the simulation community, she is currently volunteering as a chair of the SSH SimOPS conference. She is also certification reviewer with SSH. In addition to her experience in academia, she has also worked in the corporate sector in the field of health care simulation and education.
