Dr. Huang is an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Gerontology, Geriatrics, and Palliative Care at UAB. She earned her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Alabama and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Palliative Psychology and Psycho-oncology at UAB. She serves as the Director of the Psychology and Counseling Program and the Associate Director for Education at the UAB Center for Palliative and Supportive Care, as well as the Director of the Psycho-Oncology Program for the Cancer Service Line.
As a licensed clinical psychologist, Dr. Huang launched the Psychosocial Oncology Training Academy (POTA), where she trains interdisciplinary clinicians and provides counseling to patients and families facing serious illness. She also spearheads the UAB Psycho-Oncology Distress Screening and Management Program (DSMP) and the UAB Psycho-Oncology Counseling Residency Program (PCRP). Additionally, she chairs the Interprofessional Education Task Force and co-leads the development of the UAB Interprofessional Education Exchange (IPEX) curriculum, which incorporates case-based simulation learning for subspecialty palliative care learners.
Her interests include implementing system-wide best practices to improve access to and the quality of psychosocial cancer care, interprofessional education (IPE), health disparities, mixed-method research, and trauma-informed palliative care.
