Dr. Sherri Fannon

Dr. Sherri L. Fannon DNP, MSN, RN, CHSE is the Associate Dean for Interprofessional Simulation and Innovation at Grand Valley State University (GVSU) and an Associate Professor for the Kirkhof College of Nursing, holding the credentials of a Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator. She manages the operations of the 67,000 square foot Interprofessional Simulation Center, overseeing over 20 health science programs and other colleges across the university. She received her Doctor of Nursing Practice with a focus in leadership and quality improvement from the University of Michigan and her Master of Science in Nursing Education at Michigan State University. Her clinical background, prior to going into academia, included working 12 years in the pediatric and neonatal intensive care. She has a passion for educating both graduate and undergraduate nursing students and faculty members. She has been published in peer reviewed journals and continues to focus her research on simulation curriculum modalities, working with interprofessional healthcare students. She has been a consultant and implemented quality assurance initiatives at universities, including GVSU and Michigan State University- College of Human Medicine, establishing standardized patient case portrayal and interrater reliability for student evaluations in summative Objective Structured Clinical Examinations. Additionally, she has received federal grant funding for educational resources and presented, disseminating her research on both state and national levels. Most recently she received a grant from the Department of Health and Human Services for $1.5 million dollars to develop a multi-patient simulation for the fourth semester undergraduate students titled: Improving nursing workforce readiness for practice and retention through multiple-patient simulations.
