Melissa Serwe DNP, RN, CHSE has a Doctorate in Nursing Leadership and currently works as the Simulation Educator at Madison College. Prior to working in simulation full time, she was a nursing faculty for the college for 16 years. While working as a nursing faculty, Melissa used simulation to promote clinical judgement in teaching theory, lab, and clinical courses. She also co-chaired the Simulation and Skills committee that worked to develop and maintain simulation policies and procedures for the School of Nursing. Since transitioning into a full-time position in simulation, Melissa has extended her work in simulation to include other health programs including: Dental Assisting, Dental Hygiene, Occupational Therapy Assistant, Radiography, and Respiratory Therapy. Using the foundation of the International Nursing Association of Clinical Simulation and Learning standards of best practice, she promotes the use of simulation to meet curricular needs, address gaps in clinical learning, and promote students’ readiness for the workforce.
