Julie Manz, PhD, RN, CNE is a Professor and Associate Dean of Undergraduate Programs at Creighton University College of Nursing in Omaha, Nebraska. As Associate Dean, she leads the one-year accelerated baccalaureate nursing program and the four-year traditional baccalaureate nursing program. Dr. Manz teaches in the areas of transition to practice, medical-surgical simulation, introduction to professional nursing, and is a scholarly project chair for DNP students. Dr. Manz is co-author of the Creighton Simulation Evaluation Instrument© (C-SEI), and the Creighton Competency Evaluation Instrument© (C-CEI), internationally used instrument to measure competency in clinical and simulation experiences. Since its publication in 2008, the CCEI has been requested to be used by over 928 individuals and corporations, representing all 50 states, Washington, D.C. and Puerto Rico. Additionally, individuals from 30 countries are using the instrument and it has been translated into 8 languages. The CCEI was featured in the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) National Simulation Study which concluded that up to 50% of undergraduate clinical could be simulated without affecting NLCEX-RN pass rates. Dr. Manz is currently involved in revising and updating the CCEI to the CCEI 2.0.
