Valorie MacKenna is an Assistant Clinical Professor and Director of Simulation-Based Education at the
University of Connecticut School of Nursing. With over 30 years as a Registered Nurse and 15 years’
experience working in simulation, Valorie lends her expertise to provide educationally sound learning
experiences for UCONN nursing students across four regional campuses. Valorie holds certifications in
healthcare simulation (CHSE), and nursing education (CNE). She earned her PhD and graduate certificate
in healthcare simulation from the University of Central Florida. Her dissertation research focused on self-
debriefing and depth of reflection in UG nursing students. Valorie’s research appears in peer-reviewed
nursing and simulation journals. She has presented her work at international and national conferences.
Valorie is an active member of the International Nursing Association of Clinical Simulation and Learning
(INACSL). She is also a member of Society for Simulation in Healthcare and serves on the SSH
Technology Committee.
