Ann Butt is the Executive Director of Simulation & Experiential Learning and a Clinical Associate Professor in the College of Nursing at the University of Utah. She earned a Doctorate in Education (Curriculum & Instruction) from Boise State University in 2015. Dr. Butt is a Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator and thrives on helping undergraduate nursing students learn through simulation and deliberate practice. In 2015, Dr. Butt was part of a team that worked on developing and piloting an immersive virtual reality system to help students practice psychomotor nursing skills for which the team received a WOW (WCET Outstanding Work) award; a manuscript based on this project was awarded the 2018 Research Article of the Year by the Editorial Board of Clinical Simulation in Nursing. Believing in the power that animals provide humans and with the blessing of College of Nursing leadership, Ann has trained Gracie the CON therapy dog who goes to work daily to provide support to students, faculty and staff. Gracie can change the mood or instantly light up a room with her goofy personality and boundless energy. Students may not know Dr. Butt, but they're always happy to see Gracie!
