Dr. Amy Reed earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2009, followed by a Master’s in Nursing Education in 2012, and a PhD in Nursing in 2021. She currently serves as the Director of the Simulation Laboratory for Health Sciences at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, where she leads simulation initiatives that enhance clinical reasoning, interprofessional collaboration, and workforce readiness.
Dr. Reed has a passion for creating meaningful learning experiences that bridge the gap between theory and practice. Her research focuses on simulation-based education, health equity, and social determinants of health. She is actively engaged in interprofessional simulation projects aimed at addressing disparities in healthcare delivery and improving patient outcomes through teamwork and communication.
Her scholarly work includes collaborations on publications in Nursing Education Perspectives and Nursing Administration Quarterly, particularly in areas related to strengthening the nursing workforce and fostering cultural humility in healthcare education. She is a strong advocate for expanding simulation’s role in preparing future healthcare professionals and continuously works to develop innovative, evidence-based approaches to experiential learning.
Dr. Reed is committed to shaping the next generation of healthcare providers by fostering inclusive, high-quality simulation experiences that support student development and patient-centered care.
