Associate Teaching Professor
University of Washington
Seattle, WA, United States
Dr. Sherley (she/her) graduated from the University of Washington with a Doctor of Nursing Practice specializing in Nurse-Midwifery in 2015 and has practiced as a CNM for the past 10 years. She has been a core midwifery faculty at the University of Washington since 2019 and has been leading the clinical education portion of the program since 2021. Dr. Sherley's background in simulation is rooted in her role as faculty at UW. She recognized the need to better utilize and integrate simulation into the midwifery courses to ensure nurse-midwifery students were equipped with the necessary skills to safely provide emergent care. She worked closely with the simulation team to develop a programmatic approach to integrating simulation in a scaffolded and intentional manner throughout the clinical year. The successful implementation of this approach has proven to support learners as they integrate the life-saving skills required of a nurse-midwife into their clinical learning journey. Dr. Sherley's scholarly work has focused on health equity and addressing the perinatal mortality crisis and health disparities through educating on Queer and Trans Health, Reproductive Justice, and Restorative Justice as a tool for Truth and Reconciliation work in an academic setting. She has presented on these topics at local, state, and national conferences and enjoys engaging audiences through story-telling, lecture, and audience participation.
