Danett Cantey currently works as a Clinical Nurse Educator at Duke University Hospital. Over the last seventeen years as a clinical nurse educator, she has worked with nursing staff and nursing students to teach skills, facilitates simulations, and coordinate clinical lab events. She graduated with a BSN degree in 1999 and an MSN degree in nursing education in 2007, both from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She has practiced nursing in acute, ambulatory, and primary care settings with adult and pediatric patients. She’s passionate about working with nursing students and new gradulate nurses helping them to become competent nurses who will deliver compassionate, safe and quality nursing care. Her professional interests include simulation and debriefing methodologies, application of TeamSTEPPS strategies, teaching and mentoring others in simulation best practices, and recruiting and promoting diversity in nursing education. She’s a member of the North Carolina Nurses Association Simulation Council, National League for Nursing and Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. Danett is also a member of INACSL's Inclusion, Diversity, & Equity Committee. She is an American Heart Association BLS & ACLS instructor, a Certified Nurse Educator, and a Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator. Danett has published several simulation manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals and has presented podium/poster presentations on simulation at local, regional, and national conferences. She aspires to obtain a terminal degree in nursing or education in the near future.
