Dr. Benjamin J. Miller is an esteemed nurse practitioner, educator, researcher, and healthcare leader with over thirty years of experience in clinical practice, academia, and international health initiatives. He is currently an Associate Professor at Montana State University’s Mark and Robyn Jones College of Nursing, where he contributes to advancing nurse practitioner education and clinical training.
Dr. Miller earned his Ph.D. in Nursing from Washington State University—Spokane, where his research focused on diabetes prevalence and healthcare access in rural Tanzania. He also holds a Master of Nursing from Washington State University—Vancouver, where he specialized as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) and Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP).
With extensive clinical expertise, Dr. Miller has served as a hospitalist, emergency care provider, and cardiology nurse practitioner in multiple healthcare settings across Montana and Washington State. He has held leadership roles in emergency and acute care. His commitment to evidence-based practice and patient-centered care has solidified his reputation as a rural emergency and critical care nursing leader.
In academia, Dr. Miller has held faculty and administrative positions at Seattle University, the University of Washington, and Montana State University, significantly shaping graduate nursing education. As a prolific researcher, he has authored numerous book chapters and journal articles on pathophysiology, pharmacotherapeutics, and nursing education. His scholarly contributions include securing federal grants to improve clinical training for nurse practitioners in rural and underserved communities.
A Fellow of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (FAANP), Dr. Miller has also served as president of multiple professional organizations, including the Puget Sound Nurse Practitioner Association and Sigma Theta Tau’s Alpha Sigma Chapter. He remains an active advocate for advancing nursing practice and education through mentorship, global health initiatives, and policy development.
