Dr. Raquel Bertiz is the Senior Manager for the National League for Nursing (NLN) Center for Innovation in Education Excellence, is a part of the team that leads national initiatives focused on advancing nursing education through innovation, simulation, and faculty development. With over 15 years of academic experience, she is a recognized leader in simulation-based education and curriculum transformation.
Prior to joining the NLN, Dr. Bertiz served as Lead Faculty for the Maryland Clinical Simulation Resource Consortium (MCSRC), a state-funded initiative to expand the use of simulation in nursing education across Maryland. In this role, she designed and implemented the Simulation Education Leader Curriculum and led faculty development programs across diverse academic institutions. She also served as Simulation Lead and full-time professor at the Montgomery College Nursing Program, where she guided the integration of simulation into the curriculum, supported interprofessional initiatives, and taught across clinical and didactic courses including Maternal-Child Nursing, Pharmacology, and Health Assessment.
Dr. Bertiz is also an advocate for equity in education and the use of open educational resources (OER). She co-authored a health assessment OER and played a key role in leading curriculum revision efforts and promoting ADN-to-BSN transition pathways.
She earned her PhD in Health Professions Education at the MGH Instutute of Health Professions with a focus on simulations and health professions education, BSN and PhD in Nursing from the University of the Philippines, MSN from Saint Paul University Philippines and completed a Post-Master’s Certificate in Nursing Education from Georgetown University in Washington, DC.
A Certified Nurse Educator (CNE) and Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE), Dr. Bertiz brings a deep commitment to building educator capacity, enhancing student learning, and transforming nursing education through innovative pedagogies.
